Pat Rafter: Homegrown Hero essay

July 28th, 2010 webmaster No comments

Patrick Rafter’s accomplishments on the tennis court are not the only credentials that make him a hero in many Australian’s eyes. Pats humble roots as a Queensland country boy and the unconditional love that his family have showered upon him, have modeled him into a sincere, caring man. Even though his parents were very poor at times, his dad always found time to donate at the local church, and this has obviously rubbed off on Pat.

He has donated much time, and money, to charity work, fundraising and helping those less fortunate than him. After receiving US $900 000 for his Grand Slam win in 1997, Pat proceeded to anonymously donate a third of this to the Starlight Foundation in Brisbane. He repeated this amazing feat of generosity a year later, when he won at Flushing Meadows again.

In February 1999, Patrick Rafter founded the ‘Patrick Rafter Cherish the Children Foundation’. It was Pat’s personal desire to help provide children in need with the means to make a difference to enrich lives of our next generation. He wanted to help more than one child, more than one charity. Through the ‘Patrick Rafter Cherish the Children Foundation’, funds are distributed to many charities, including those providing assistance to homeless children, and to organizations caring for children with physical and or emotional disabilities. Sociological Stratification essay

July 14th, 2010 webmaster No comments

From the home, to the workplace, to the classroom, and almost everywhere you look you see class differences. Traditionally, Americans have thought of themselves as an egalitarian society. Egalitarianism is defined as equal social, political and economic rights for all. This belief first descended from the words of the “Declaration of Independence” that states, “All men are created equal”. This would in some aspects support the claim to an egalitarian society, but on the other hand it states men are created equal which begs the question of the equality of women. Since the origins of the country and back to the origins of humanity stratification was an issue. I am sure prehistoric man was stratified, but possibly in different terms. Instead of economic differences they were separated by differences of who was the better hunter, and maybe who had the most food. Our roots draw back to the problem of stratification systems.

As proof of the nonexistence of an egalitarian society I make reference to this statistics “Between 1981 and 2000 the wages of ordinary workers in the US roughly doubled. But in the same period… the earnings of America’s most highly paid CEOs rose by 4300 per cent.” Read more…

History Essay Questions

November 10th, 2009 webmaster 2 comments

History essay questions are most difficult because many students will freeze and suddenly forget everything they have ever learned on the topic. To overcome the freeze effect of history essay questions, relax and start at the beginning. You may think you have forgotten every aspect of the questions and be unable to answer anything. Think first of the basics – what era in time is the question referring to, where did it occur, who were key players in the historical reference, and then evaluate the question to see how much of these answers have played a part in the development of the question.

As many history essay questions are directly related to learning materials that you will have covered in class, you may want to try to remember specific lectures your instructor has given to the class. Do this by imagining that you are sitting in the room while your instructor is speaking, what has the instructor said regarding the specific history essay question, and how will this particular information apply to your essay response to the question. Using memory techniques will assist you in overcoming some of the confusion at answering the history essay questions you have been assigned.

In some cases, your history essay questions will be developed outside of quizzes and tests. When you are able to take extra time to develop your responses to the history essay questions, make your focus on demonstrating the information in a clear and concise manner that demonstrates your strong command of the English language. Many instructors are not only looking to see if you are able to research your topic, but to see if you are able to share the information in a way that demonstrates your knowledge and your communication skills.

Black History Essay

November 2nd, 2009 webmaster No comments

Many schools develop Black history essays during Black History Month, also referred to as African-American History or African-American Month. These essays will include a number of pivotal points in the US where African-American’s have successfully overcome adversity and demonstrated perseverance. Most students develop essays regarding historical times such as slavery and the time of Martin Luther King. While each student should strive to find something specific that enables their relationship with the information to grow, it is important to consider that the information must be relevant to the struggle for equality and freedom. The primary aspect is awareness of the needs of all people – regardless of culture, and to demonstrate that while many history books have a larger reference base of Anglo-Saxon success, there are also many successes in all cultural heritages. You may not find that your teacher has assigned a list of topics to select from for your essay, which may make it more difficult to find something unique to write about; however, you may find that you can search online for secret tidbits of information that other students, or even your teacher, may not know yet. You can use these types of information to get a great grade, your teacher will be very impressed with desire to go beyond the assignment and gather further information. Many students will write the same paper, but your information will be new to all the students.

Finally, while writing your essay try to put yourself in that time of history and think how you might have felt to live in those circumstances. While you write, remember that there may not be the same situations in the world today, but these points in history should always be remembered.
